FLORENCE, AZ (CBS5) -
One person was ejected and another hurt in a motor vehicle rollover accident Friday in the San Tan Valley area, the Pinal County Sheriff's Office said.
The driver was treated for facial injuries and his passenger remains in the intensive care unit.
Pinal County sheriff's deputies said they began getting 911 calls from residents reporting the accident near the intersection of Skyline and Tombstone Roads.
When deputies arrived, they found an extended cab pickup upright with significant roof damage. The passenger, Carlos Santillana, 45, was being tended to by several witnesses for significant injuries he had suffered.
Sheriff's deputies said the driver, Glenn Allen Oglesby, 55, of Chandler, showed signs of alcohol and drug impairment. He insisted that the deputies allow him to take his personal bag from the wreckage as they tried to remove him from the accident scene.
Deputies retrieved the bag, and when they opened it they said they found a bottle of brandy. A drug pipe was also discovered outside the driver's door in the accident debris, PCSO said.
Oglesby was traveling west on Skyline Road, where he cut off several oncoming drivers, according to witnesses and a PCSO investigation. He then continued south onto a dirt road paralleling a farm field, where he traveled a short distance before erratically over-correcting as he tried to return to the asphalt, deputies said. He lost control at the embankment, where his truck began rolling several times, PCSO said.
Santillana was airlifted to Scottsdale Healthcare Osborn with life-threatening head injuries. Oglesby was treated by medical personnel.
The collision remains under investigation and criminal charges against Oglesby are pending.
