Man jailed in connection with Tuesday night Smith Co. Shooting

SMITH COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

One man has been arrested in connection with a Tuesday night shooting in Smith County.

The Smith County Sheriff's office says 51-year-old Richard Lee Hunt was booked into the Smith County Jail around 2:30 Wednesday morning. Hunt is charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Authorities say Hunt allegedly shot a man in the neck and chest, then shot himself in the leg.

According to the Smith County Sheriff's Office, the other man is in critical condition at a Tyler hospital.

The shooting happened at 6:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 15000 block of State Highway 135 near Arp. The cause of the shooting is still under investigation.
