Shooting Sutton's help White Oak to State

WHITE OAK, TX (KLTV) -

In White Oak, the Sutton brothers bomb away.

"Swagtastic," said White Oak senior Levi Yancy, "[Their shooting] that's what it is, swagtastic."

"The both just knock down three's like it is crazy," said junior Josh Benson.

Skylar Sutton and his younger brother Slade have become two of the best 3-point shooters in East Texas.

They've  been driving teams crazy their whole lives.

"We have been playing together since we were in our cribs," said Skylar, a senior. "Two or three years old, so it is really cool."

"It is a blessing, a gift from God to go out there with your brother and play on the same team for White Oak and to represent White Oak," said Slade, a junior.

One year ago, Slade watched from the sidelines as his older brother helped the Roughnecks to a state title.

"To watch your brother play on the biggest stage, I would have never imagined being able to watch my own brother in Austin," said Slade.

"This year, Slade has kind of taken on my role from last year," said Skylar. "He is just spot on, he is money from the three point line."

Now the brothers hope to cash in at state together.

They've been going to the tournament every year since their childhood, this year they go, as teammates.

"Last year it was just awesome to be together and to go to state," said Skylar. "But now that we are playing and going to be playing together on the same court, it is just a blessing."

"It has been a dream of mine to actually start and play on the UT Austin court," said Slade.

Now they hope to make another dream a reality and bring White Oak it's 2nd straight title.

And along the way, give themselves a memory of a lifetime.

"We'd never forget this moment if we won it together," said Slade. "I want to win, I want to win bad."

White Oak, ranked #2 in the state, plays East Chambers on Friday morning at 8:30 at the Erwin Center in Austin.

Stephen f. Austin head football coach Clint Conque paid a visit to the Rose City this afternoon. It's perfect timing to pump up the program, considering the Jacks are coming off a dramatic last second win over Incarnate Word. Put on by the alumni association, Conque was the featured speaker at a Lumberjack networking event. Coach Conque got to brag a little about SFA's first victory of the year. Not to mention that despite a rough non-conference, the Jacks are 1-0 in South...More >>

Last Friday night, the Lufkin Panthers defeated No.12 John Tyler 44-34. It was a surprise to everyone, but the Panthers.  "We see that we're good. Most people, a lot of people doubted us.
