Sinkhole swallowed man in Florida as he slept in his bedroom

Happy Friday, everyone! There's so much going on in East Texas this weekend; we hope you'll get outside and enjoy some fun!

Here's some of what we're working on for you in the KLTV newsroom this afternoon:

During East Texas News at 4, a Florida man went missing overnight as a sinkhole suddenly opened up under his bedroom at his home in Tampa. The sinkhole swallowed the man as he called out for help from his brother. We'll share more about the tragic situation this afternoon.

At 5, after a political battle that raged on for more than a year, Congress has passed the violence against women act. Some politicians opposed the bill because of concerns over new protections for same sex couples, among other issues. We'll tell you how it turned out coming up.

And at 6, an East Texas sailor convicted of raping and robbing an Okinawan woman was sentenced to ten years in a Japanese prison. We'll tell you more tonight.

Also, Chief Meteorologist Mark Scirto will join us with the best local weather forecast to help you plan your weekend, whether you're going to First Monday, working in the yard, or just hanging out with the family.

Join us at 4, 5, and 6 on for the livestream of our newscasts, or watch live on your iPhone or android on the KLTV news app. We love hearing from you, especially those of you who are displaced from East Texas and are enjoying your hometown news from far away! We appreciate you all, near or far.
