She was runner up for the East Texas Yamboree Princess. After putting down the tiara, Harmony senior Shelby Hutto did some heavy lifting.
"At times people ask my why I don't wear my tiara when I lift," said Hutto. "I get some jokes about it every now and then."
The Harmony senior is no joke in the weight room. Hutto has become the first Harmony girls powerlifter to ever qualify for the regional meet.
Weighing in at 130 pounds, Hutto can squat twice her weight. Her coach Donnie Denmin calls her a pioneer at Harmony High School.
"It's just proving people wrong," said Hutto. "Because many people don't think girls can lift weights or accomplish something. I lift more than half the guys here do."
Hutto will compete in the regional meet Friday at Wills Point.
