An East Texas woman is on a personal mission to return something that may belong to a veteran. Emory native Teresa Aguilar bought a U.S. Navy sailor's portrait at a Goodwill store two weeks ago for $3. She bought it knowing it was out of place.
"I'm trying to locate the sailor in this photo or his family. I'm sure someone is missing it. If someone lost something like this, they'd want it back," she says.
Her sole intent is to return it to its owner. Its a matter of honor. The military is close to her heart.
"We're a military family and we think that if it was us that lost something like this, we'd want them to do the same thing for us. I have numerous family members who've been in the military, my dad was in the air force and he happened to lose his photo," Aguilar says.
Aguilar's son, who's about to go to navy boot camp, sees the importance as well.
"If it was me, I'd want someone to return this photo to me," says Chris Aguilar.
There are no clues as to who this man is. He's wearing no insignia or rank. Aguilar has contacted numerous agencies trying to find him.
"I posted it on my facebook page. I contacted the Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois. It's on the Great Lakes Naval Base facebook page," Teresa says.
How the portrait landed at Goodwill is a mystery as well. But Aguilar says, whether she finds the sailor or not, the portrait will not suffer the same fate again.
"If I can't find him, its got a home. It'll stay on my wall," she says.
Aguilar asks that anyone who recognizes the man in the portrait to contact her on her facebook page.
