Released by the Longview Police Department:

Longview Police arrested the suspect in a shooting outside a motel late Tuesday evening.

Just after 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a shooting at the Globe Inn Motel in the 1300 block of East Marshall Avenue.

According to Longview Police, when officers arrived they were told a black male, identified as Will Cox Jr., 37, of Longview and several other subjects were involved in an altercation. Witnesses at the scene told police that Cox shot 29-year-old Darkis Ramond Vaughn one time in the leg and then turned the weapon on a 29-year-old female victim, threatening to shoot her as well.

Cox fired the weapon several more times striking the rear of the car the female victim was sitting in, then fled the scene.

Cox was located a short time later at Teague Park. He was arrested and charged with deadly conduct and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Cox was transported to the Gregg County Jail without incident.
