Michelle Carr has announced that she will not seek re-election in May 2013 for her seat on the Tyler ISD board, where she currently serves as president.
She plans to stay active in public education, however. Carr said that she will be volunteering at Raise Your Hand, Texas, an advocacy group for public schools.
"It takes a lot of time. These are the last two years my son is in high school, and I want to spend more time at home with my family," Carr said, explaining her decision not to seek re-election.
Rev. Dr. Marty Dunbar has announced he will run for that District 6 seat on the T.I.S.D. School Board. He is currently an Associate Pastor at Marvin UMC in Tyler where he is the preaching pastor for the Core Worship services.
"My goal is to serve our children, our teachers, our administrators and the community of Tyler. I know what it means to be a team player and work hard for a cause greater than ourselves. I know what it means to be responsible with the money of other people and still build something great for future generations. God has gifted me with the ability to take complex things and make them simple. I think this will be an asset to the community, T.I.S.D, and the school board," said Dunbar.
