LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - Star power may catapult Kentucky's U.S. Senate race beyond any campaign the commonwealth has ever seen and not just because the senate minority leader is up for re-election in 2014.

If actress Ashley Judd enters the race, she'll already have the support from one politician.

"I think Ashley Judd can communicate a vision for the future of Kentucky better than anyone else, but I don't think she's the only one," Rep. John Yarmuth (D-KY 3rd) said.

Comfortable in front of voters or photographers, Judd may take her message from President Barack Obama's campaign trail to her own.

The Hollywood celebrity stirred speculation at the Bluegrass Ball during inauguration when Judd said she's "taking a closer look" at a run. Judd's interest in the democratic nomination would mean a challenge against one of the most powerful republicans.

"I guess the biggest concern is she lives in Tennessee," said Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY). While Paul is a republican, he's often at odds with his counterpart. Paul confirmed he'll support Senator McConnell's candidacy and questioned the legalities of Judd's residency.

"I think that's a problem. She was a delegate for the president in Tennessee. She lives half the year in Scotland. It doesn't seem like she has a lot of deep Kentucky roots here," Paul

When asked whether Judd has the credentials and resume, Yarmuth said "I think she's extremely legitimate. She has a master's in public policy from Harvard and she's very knowledgeable and passionate."

"The negative advertising that Mitch McConnell has habitually thrown at his opponents just won't stick because people will see so much of her," Yarmuth said.

Judd's representatives did not provide a response.
