Released by the Rockwall Police Department:
Rockwall, Texas
– On February 16,
2013 at approximately 7:53pm the Rockwall Police Department received a report
of a shooting at The Harbor, located in the 2000 Block of Summer Lee. Upon
arrival, responding officers found two victims, a male and a female, who had
been shot multiple times. The suspect
fled the scene but was identified as the ex-boyfriend of the female victim.
At approximately 8:22pm Garland Police Department
located the suspect's vehicle in their city and a pursuit ensued when their
officers attempted to stop him. The
suspect fled east on IH30 into the City of Rockwall where officers from the Rockwall
Police Department and Rockwall Sheriffs Department joined in the pursuit. The pursuit ended in Greenville, Texas
when the suspect's vehicle suffered mechanical problems after being spiked and
ramming a Texas Department of Public Safety vehicle.
The suspect then exited his vehicle, pointed a
handgun at the officers and was shot by officers on the scene. The suspect was transported to Presbyterian Hospital
in Greenville, Texas.
The suspect was later flown to Parkland
Hospital in Dallas for further treatment.
Both victims were transported to area hospitals
but the female victim succumbed to her injuries. The suspect was identified as Anthony Dewayne
Lewis 47 years of age. The shooting in
the City of Rockwall
is currently under investigation by Rockwall Police Detectives. The Texas Rangers are investigating the
officer involved shooting that took place in Hunt County.
