For some, Valentine's Day is all about love, for others it's a day of action.
For
the first time in Tyler, 'One Billion Rising,' a global campaign to end
violence against women, held a rally on the downtown square.
The
event featured a DJ, dancing, and a jump house for kids. There was also
a table set up where people could buy mace, tasers, and other weapons
women could use to protect themselves.
Event coordinator Heather Sinclair said today's event is about trying to get the next generation to end violence against women.
"I
kind of just wanted to do this for my boys. To let them know that this
is happening and it's real. It doesn't take much to get a community
involved, especially for our future. I hope that they can do that also,"
Sinclair said.
This event has been going on globally for 15 years.
