Courts upholds $28 million award in Skywalk case

FLAGSTAFF, AZ (AP) -

A federal court has upheld a $28 million judgment against a business arm of the northern Arizona tribe that owns the Grand Canyon Skywalk.

The ruling Monday by U.S. District Judge David Campbell rejected arguments by the Hualapai Tribe that the award isn't enforceable.

The American Arbitration Association had awarded Las Vegas businessman David Jin the money in August. His attorneys went to federal court to enforce it.

Jin invested $30 million to build the Skywalk, a glass bridge that gives visitors a view of the Colorado River from the Hualapai reservation.

The award applies only to the assets of the tribal business arm, which argued that the arbitration association lacked jurisdiction. It also argued that arbitration was unnecessary because the tribe has severed Jin's interests in the Skywalk.
