
Phillip Crawford posted his second straight double-double and Joshua Freelove added 15 points to help Alabama State defeat Alabama A&M 69-62 Saturday in Southwestern Athletic Conference play.
Crawford, who had 29 points and 17 rebounds against Mississippi Valley State, finished with 26 points and 16 rebounds. Jamel Waters tallied 10 for Alabama State (8-17, 6-6), which posted back-to-back wins for just the second time this season.
Alabama State held an early 13-9 lead before Crawford hit back-to-back jumpers to spark an 8-4 run for the Hornets. Crawford capped the run with a jumper.
Alabama A&M (8-15, 4-8) cut the deficit to 28-22 on Jeremy Crutcher's 3-pointer, but the Hornets closed the half on a 5-0 run and took a 33-22 lead into the break. The Bulldogs got within four, 66-62, with 1:38 left to play but missed their last three shots, all 3-pointers.
Brandon Ellis had 15 for Alabama A&M.
