Today an East Texas Republican contender for congress picked up an endorsement from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce's board of directors. Republican Louis Gohmert talked "issues" when he visited businesses in Longview, Marshall, Nacogdoches, and Lufkin.
As a former Smith County District Judge, and a former Chief Justice of the 12th Court of Appeals, he says this backing is a big vote of confidence.
Democrat congressman Max Sandlin responded today to the news of Gohmert's endorsement with the following: "this year, the U.S. Chamber endorsed legislation which would outsource American jobs and also supported the republican prescription drug plan that helps h-m-o's and pharmaceutical manufacturing companies more than seniors. I disagree with them on those issues. I feel very confident that the people of East Texas stand with me."
