Gorman adds another division one track athlete

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Bishop Gorman has an impressive track record, when it comes to track and field.  Friday marked a special moment for the program.  Senior Madeline Raney signed with Texas Tech.

Raney is the 25th Gorman girls track and field athlete to sign with a division one school, under track coach Jerome Milton. Reverend Milton celebrated the first division one signing back in 1998.

"I'm just excited to have signed 25 girls," said Milton.  "To be a bridge to more lofty athletic and academic significance to them means everything to me."

Raney credits Milton for pushing her to the finish line.

"He (Milton) tells me he's my second father every day," said Raney. "He really motivated me to make this decision and make it all the way through."

Raney will compete in the heptathlon at Texas Tech.

"It means a lot," said Raney.  "It makes me proud of our school and hopefully more people continue."

Friday's signing class included Milton's son, Jerome Anthony Milton, who signed with U.T. Tyler.  Matthew Roe signed with Southwestern University.  He will compete in football and track and field.
