Two East Texas Jails Work To Solve Overcrowding Issues

City of Tyler inmates will be moving to the Cherokee County Jail to help relieve overcrowding in the Smith County Jail.

Only longer-term prisoners, who have chosen to serve out their sentences instead of paying fines of serving community service will be moving.

They anticipate housing an average of 15 Smith County prisoners at the Cherokee jail at a time. The cost for housing prisoners at Cherokee county will be thirty-five dollars, the same as Smith County Jail.
