Gov. Beshear: Tax reform critical for Kentucky

Posted: Updated:
FRANKFORT, KY (FOX19) -

Kentucky Governor Steve Beshear made his care for reforming the state's tax structure on Wednesday, naming education as the state's top priority.

In Beshear's State of the Commonwealth Address, he expressed that massive budget cuts over the past five years have hurt key government programs, and tax reform would be critical for long-term stability.

Kentucky has had to cut the state budget by $1.6 billion since 2008.

A commission appointed by Gov. Beshear proposed a list of tax reforms that would generate nearly $700 million a year in additional revenue.
