BATAVIA, OH (FOX19) -

A Finland company has purchased nearly 900,000 square feet of the former Ford Batavia Transmission plant.

Huhtamaki, Inc. also purchased 60 acres of surrounding land for a state-of-the-art converting facility and distribution center that will initially produce paper drink cups and distribute products to serve customers in the food service and retail industries.

Huhtamaki operates 64 manufacturing units and several sales offices in 31 countries. The Batavia location will serve customers such as Nestle, Hershey and Starbucks.

The company plans to begin operations during the second half of 2013 and anticipates creating nearly 200 jobs by the end of 2016. The total investment is calculated to be $64.6 million.
