One of the office shooting survivors was in the wrong place at the wrong time when she was hit by a bullet.
A bullet went through Nichole Hampton's left wrist, she's bandaged up there and she's using a wheelchair to get around. But the 32-year-old says she's doing just fine, recovering at John C. Lincoln Hospital. She can't believe just how lucky she is.
"It's about right here. It's where I think it went in, it went out through the bottom part of my thumb just about right here," said Hampton while pointing at her wrist.
CBS 5's cameras were rolling as Hampton lay on a stretcher as first responders took her from the building to an ambulance.
"It's very surreal, I mean it's not real quite yet. It just feels like this isn't actually happening," she said.
But before SWAT raided the building looking for the suspect and before everyone was evacuated, Hampton's day began like any other.
"I was outside taking pictures with my cell phone; we have a photographer coming out in a couple of weeks," She said the photographer wanted her to show her what kind of lighting the building got during the 10 o'clock hour.
Hampton was on her way back into the front lobby of the building when she saw four men running out.
"One of them said, 'He's got a gun.' Then I heard shots."
Hampton says glass from the door shattered. At first she thought it was glass that hit her wrist. It wasn't until she ran into one of the offices asking for help that she realized it was a gunshot wound.
She says she will have to go through some occupational therapy for her hand and that she's very lucky.
Hampton is sorry to hear about the other victims and gives their families her thoughts and prayers.
