East Texas Teen At Convention

One of the youngest volunteers at this year's Democratic National Convention calls East Texas home. 18-year-old Katie Naranjo of Lufkin will attend the convention as a volunteer staff member. Because she was too young to vote in the primary, she was ineligible to go as a delegate. But despite her age, Katie says she's had an interest in politics for a long time and feels getting involved is important.

"It's something important. People just shouldn't vote, they should have a reason as to why they vote and they should be able to defend their reasons or at least tell people about their reasons and influence others to vote and register and to make sure their voices are heard," says Katie.

Katie will be one of just many Texans at the convention Monday night. The lone star state sent 195 Texas delegates to Boston.
