CLEVELAND, OH (WOIO) -

19 Action News has learned next week a Cleveland City Councilman will introduce tough new measures to stop rowdiness on RTA buses.

This comes after an uproar that started when a bus driver gave an uppercut to a female passenger he said was out of control.

Councilman Kevin Conwell has drafted a law with tougher penalties for assaulting a driver, causing a disturbance on an RTA bus or causing vandalism.

Conwell says he's been working with the bus driver's union and RTA itself to address the problems.

We recently showed you RTA is testing shields on buses to protect drivers.

That testing may go on for several more weeks.
