Inmate Escapes From Jail

Authorities in Franklin County are searching for a man who escaped from jail Saturday.

It happened overnight at the Franklin County Jail in Mount Vernon.  Authorities say around 1 a.m., jailers noticed 34-year-old Samuel Christopher Gentry wasn't in his cell.  They soon learned he had stuffed his pants and socks with toilet paper, leaving them in his bed to look like his legs.

He then climbed to the roof using a small ventilation shaft.  From there they say he jump to the ground and escaped.

Authorities describe Gentry as 6'2, 160 pounds with dark hair and green eyes.  He has tattoo's on both arms, and his chest.  If you have any information you're asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff's Department at 903-537-4539.
