Budget Cuts Close Longview Treatment Building

State budget cuts are forcing an East Texas facility that helps women struggling with substance abuse to close its doors. Longview's Sabine Valley Center is eliminating its housing center called The Kirkpatrick.

In the face of budget cuts, the Texas Commission On Alcohol and Drug Abuse, say they are no longer able to afford the $100,000 a year rent for The Kirkpatrick. The building houses six women, some with children, all of whom will be moved to other area facilities. The Kirkpatrick is scheduled to close at the end of the month.
