New precautions following a mosquito testing positive for West Nile in Longview... This is the third summer in a row a mosquito in Longview has tested positive. The mosquito was part of a group that was collected in the southern part of the city on July 13th.
Now, health department workers are setting "net" traps around the city to monitor the mosquito population. The traps work by creating a "scent" that draws the female mosquitos in to feed and lay eggs. Then they are collected in nets. Residents who observe high mosquito activity are asked to call their Longview environmental health department.
