A Longview Fire Department firefighter was injured responding to a fire in the 1600 block of Fowler Drive in Longview around 5 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Firefighters say when they arrived, the flames were coming out the back bedroom window and had spread to the attic. While controlling the blaze, one firefighter injured his knee. He was taken in for medical evaluation.
"I'm not sure exactly how he injured his knee, but a lot of our work is done on the knees, crawling and pulling and moving. It does take a toll sometimes as you're maneuvering trying to get through a structure, getting the fire hoses through, and all the tactics and physical movements to do the firefighting," Said Johnny Zackary with the Longview Fire Department.
No one else was injured, and no one was home at the time of the fire. Three residents are receiving help from the Red Cross.
