Drunk woman punches baby instead of woman she was aiming for

VERNON, CT- A drunk Vernon woman was arrested after she ended up punching an infant instead of the woman she was aiming for, according to police.

Jessica Diaz, 31, of Vernon, became involved in some sort of altercation with another woman and her infant child, police said. During the altercation Diaz tried to punch the woman, but ended up punching the infant instead.

When officers arrived they said Diaz was indeed drunk and was uncooperative. She was arrested and charged with assault, disorderly conduct, threatening, risk of injury to a minor and interfering with police.

While in custody, police said, Diaz was still enraged and destroyed two blankets that were in her cell, for which she was also charged with criminal mischief.

Diaz was given a court date of Jan. 29.
