Raycom College All-Star Classic - Day 1 Notes

An inside look at the day's events at the 2013 Raycom College Football All-Star Classic in Montgomery, Ala.  The game will be played on Saturday, Jan. 19 at the Cramton Bowl and kickoff is set for 2 p.m. (CT). The game will be televised by CBS Sports Network (DirecTV Channel 613).

Both teams practiced for just under two hours in helmets, shoulder pads and shorts on Monday. Both head coaches were pleased with the energy, tempo and focus the players brought to the field for the first day of practice.

The teams will practice in full pads on Tuesday. The stars team will practice at 9:30 a.m., while the Stripes team will work out at 1:45 p.m. at the Cramton Bowl.

On Monday night, the players were entertained by the Montgomery Chamber of Commerce and served Dreamland ribs at The Union Station Train Shed. Montgomery Mayor Todd Strange was among the many guests at the event.

NEW EXPERIENCE

Notre Dame senior offensive lineman has never been to Alabama, so the chance to play in the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic not only allowed him to showcase his talents to NFL scouts, but also brought to a part of the county he has never seen. He likes what he has seen so far.

"This is a great feeling and a great honor to be a part of this all-star game and to get down to a part of the country where obviously football is a way of life down here," Golic said. "I like that energy. I have never actually been down to this part of the country, so there are a lot of new experiences this week and really looking forward to everything.

Golic started all 13 games for the Fighting Irish this season and has played both guard and center during his career.

SWEET HOME ALABAMA

Of the 102 players on the Raycom College Football All-Star Classic roster, 19 either hail from the state or played college football in Alabama.

The roster has players from Alabama (5), Auburn (3), Troy (3), Alabama State (2), Jacksonville State (2), Tuskegee (2), Alabama A&M (1) and West Alabama (1).

There are four players who are Alabama natives, including Alabama defensive lineman Quinton Dial (Pinson), UConn linebacker Jory Johnson (Mobile), Georgia Tech defensive end T.J. Barnes (Enterprise) and Tuskegee defensive back William Buford (Thomasville).
