A Repeat of Monday Morning? Sleet and Freezing Rain Possible

TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Winter Weather Advisories will be in effect for a good portion of East Texas beginning at 3:00 AM - Noon on Tuesday for the following counties... Cass, Marion, Harrison, Panola, Shelby, Sabine, San Augustine, Angelina, Nacogdoches, Rusk, Gregg, Upshur, Smith and Cherokee.

Nearly the same weather pattern will set up overnight tonight and tomorrow morning that was in place Monday morning here in ETX. Very cold air at the surface and scattered pockets of moisture in the mid levels of the atmosphere will allow for sleet, freezing rain/drizzle to occur around sunrise, and continue through the late morning hours.

Temperatures, for most of East Texas will be at or below freezing around 3 AM and continue that way through 8 or 9 AM allowing for any precipitation that falls to be either in the form of sleet, freezing rain, or freezing drizzle.

Bridges and overpasses will become icy in a few spots, just like Monday morning, so extreme caution will be needed as you head into work or school.

Another disturbance is possible overnight Wednesday and early Thursday...if the moisture is available, this one will have more "teeth" to it, allowing for more sleet and even some snowfall. We will keep you posted.

Stay tuned for the latest as this forecast will likely change over the next 48 hours as we approach Wednesday. If you don't have our app yet, visit your smart phones app store and download the latest KLTV weather app.
