LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – Saturday morning, fans and foodies pulled up to Lynn's Paradise Café only to be shunned away. Loyal customers didn't know the iconic restaurant was closed for business until they dropped by for a bite to eat.

Orange cones and a tight rope blocked the parking lot's entrance after the owner shut down the business overnight. There wasn't a note or a going away message. The only communication came from security personnel hired by the restaurant.

"I like Lynn's so I'm disappointed," said George Kushner who arrived to the restaurant anticipating meeting friends for breakfast. "Very disappointed. And quite honestly, shocked."

Neighbors speculated about the restaurant's future.

"I wonder if someone will buy it and keep it going. It's a possibility. It's an icon," Mile Spalding said.

Some stopped and snapped photos of the eclectic, Technicolor restaurant known nationwide.

"Lynn's is very well known - all over the country," said Kushner. "Airplane magazines and everything else, so I think it's a loss to the Louisville community."

"This was the spot in the area," Larry Pitt said.

The restaurant was a staple in the Highlands – a spot where celebrities were seen during the Kentucky Derby and a must-visit for tourists and those new to the area.

"My wife is from here and this is the first place she brought me," said Tim Acord. "It's definitely going to be strange if it's closed down."

In a brief statement released early Saturday morning, owner Lynn Winter said, "Thank you to all of our loyal customers and faithful employees for making it possible to a run a 22 year business. It's been a great run and we've had a ton of fun. The time has come to move on to new creative ventures."

WAVE 3 will continue to follow new developments on air, online and on your mobile device.
