Whitehouse man sentenced for child pornography

A Whitehouse man has been sentenced to federal prison for child pornography violations on Wednesday.

23-year-old Oscar Vela pleaded guilty on June 11 to online enticement of a minor to engage in sexual activity. Vela agreed to pay for sex with an underage female, who was actually law enforcement agents acting undercover.

Vela was sentenced to 120 months in federal prison. He will also be required to register as a sex offender following his prison term.

The case was brought as part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice. Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state and local resources to better locate, apprehend and prosecute individuals who exploit children via the Internet.

The Longview Police Department and the U.S. Secret Service investigated the case.
