The Longview and Gladewater fire departments have new tools which could save your pet's life in the event of a fire.
The departments are now the owners of pet oxygen masks, made possibly by public donations. The masks are specially-designed to be used on pets that have suffered from smoke inhalation. They can also be used on pets that need to be resuscitated after losing consciousness from exposure to the dangerous toxic fumes that often accompany a fire.
Because animals instinctively seek a hiding place to protect themselves from fire, they are often left to fend for themselves when a fire breaks out.
