Constable at fault in Friday morning wreck, investigation continues

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

Deputy Constable Bobby Sanders was cited for the wreck Friday morning on Loop 323 and County Road 378.

DPS spokeswoman Trooper Jean Dark said Deputy Sanders failed to yield the right of way to oncoming traffic. A truck hit Sanders' unit and pushed him into a Fed Ex truck.

Several people were taken to the hospital, but we're told no one was seriously injured. Sanders was not hurt.

DPS is handling the investigation, but Smith County Precinct 4 Constable John Smith said he will conduct his own internal investigation.

Constable Smith confirmed following the accident, Sanders was given a blood alcohol and drug test, which came back negative.

Constable Smith said pending the investigation, there could be further disciplinary action taken.
