I recently had a lot of feedback on a Better East Texas segment where I spoke about the need to address semi-automatic firearms, high capacity magazines and the mental health side of permitting people to own such weapons. This commentary was in the wake of the shooting at Newtown, Connecticut. Feedback included this from Christopher Bayhi from Gun Barrel City - Your comments on so called assault weapons and high capacity magazines or completely not true. My wife and I are avid shooters, hunters, and gun collectors. Yes we do hunt with what the media likes to refer to as assault rifles, and yes my A-R-15 has been used to stop a crime to our property and harm to us. Banning any type of firearm and magazines is not the answer, evil will find a way to do evil unless met with resistance. And then there was this from John Mustard of Tyler - Yes, Newtown was a tragedy, but gun control is not the answer. The answer is people control…. and banning the violent video games, and movies. These games and movies have deadened the children morals today to violence. It seems to be a game to them. Guns are not toys. My son never had a toy gun, and I would not give him one. He did have a .22 to learn to shoot with, and was taught shooting safety. We've posted these and other comments under the Community tab on KLTV.com and please keep them coming.
