LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) - A Louisville man said he had no idea a serial bank robber was staying at his apartment.

The man was arrested Wednesday and charged with four bank robberies in Metro Louisville is behind bars while the man who was trying to do him a favor is in shock.

Javon Watson said on several occasions Robert Manley, 49, told him he was going to run to the bank, but Watson tells WAVE 3 News, he didn't know Manley was actually robbing those banks.

"I'm just surprised," Watson said, "I knew he was up to something, but it just never really came out you know, what he was actually doing."

Watson said serial bank robber is not the profession he would have guessed for Manley, a guy he met at a friend's house a few weeks ago who asked if he could crash on his couch.

"I just thought he went to the bank and made a withdrawal," Watson said, "I didn't realize he robbed it!"

It all started making sense when the U.S. Marshal's Fugitive Task Force descended on his apartment off Poplar Level Road and put Manley in cuffs.

Police said Manley hit banks all over town.

The first hold up came December 20, at the PNC on Taylorsville Road then Chase Bank on New Lagrange Road on Christmas Eve.  Surveillance photos picked up Manley December 27 at the BB&T Bank on Dixie Highway and on New Year's Eve police say he robbed the River City Bank at 2501 Bardstown Road.

Sergeant Eric Black with the LMPD Robbery Unit told us, "In each one of the bank robberies Mr. Manley entered the bank and presented a demand note stating that there were explosives outside of the bank and he also stated he had a friend monitoring the scanner."

Manley demanded and got money from the banks. Watson told us,  Manley had a story to go with it. "My mom died," Watson remembered Manley telling him, "and she left me a whole bunch of money."

Watson quickly figured out Manley had a drug addiction.

He said Manley was using rock cocaine and he thought maybe he was a drug dealer and that's where the money was coming from.

He said when the Marshals showed up, he thought it was a drug dealer at the door.

Watson says he's glad the Marshals came because he didn't know how to get Manley to leave his apartment.

Manley faces federal charges of violating his supervised release and he faces four charges in the metro of first degree robbery.

Manley recently violated his supervised release on federal fraud charges.

WAVE 3 also found out he's also facing 2nd degree rape and sodomy charges in Nelson County from earlier this year.

Ghost stories and haunted houses have long been a popular past time, but just how much truth is there to the legends? "As Shakespeare said there are more things in heaven and earth then are in your books,” says Big Foot Expert Jeff Hurley. “There are things we don't understand." At the April 21, Paranormal Conference, experts in the subject came together to further explore their theories.
