LIVINGSTON, TX (KTRE) -
Livingston
Police officers are awaiting the results of a DNA analysis before they release
the name of man whose decomposed body was found near a motorcycle crash site
just off a feeder road to US Highway 59 South on. Dec. 28.
"We
believe it's the body of a man that went missing out of South Houston in late
November," Lt. Matt Parrish, a spokesman for the Livingston Police Department,
said. "That's who the motorcycle was registered to, and we've been in contact
with his family. We're fairly confident that we've IDed the body, but we're
waiting on the results of the DNA analysis."
Parrish
said that the man the black 2005 Harley Davidson was registered to was
officially reported missing on Nov. 27. However, the man's family members said
that he hasn't been heard from since Nov. 25. In addition, Parrish said the condition
of the man's body may make it difficult to determine a cause of death.
"There's
no indication of foul play," Parrish said.
According
to an accident report prepared by the Livingston Police Department, the Harley
Davidson was traveling south on a feeder road next to US 59. The motorcycle's
rider was traveling in the outside lane when he "failed to negotiate" a sharp
curve and left the roadway.
The
accident report stated that the motorcycle went into a wooded area and into a
ditch. The Harley Davidson continued forward until it stuck a tree, ejecting
the rider from his bike.
A woman
looking for arrowheads along Choates Creek found the decomposed body near the
wrecked Harley Davidson at about 2:30 p.m. The Livingston Police officers who
responded to the scene were assisted by troopers from the Texas Department of
Public Safety.
The man's
body was sent to the medical's examiner's office in Beaumont, so that an
autopsy could be performed.
