Released by the Commerce Police Department:
COMMERCE — One man and three women were arrested on
several different charges following a lengthy investigation by officers from
the Commerce Police Department.
Officers
from the Commerce Police Department were notified by Wal-Mart Employees of a
possible credit card abuse case.
Upon
arrival, Officers detained 23 year old Commerce resident, Ashton Carter and 18
year old Commerce resident Quena Dawson. While investigating the offense,
Ms. Dawson damaged a Commerce Patrol vehicle and fled on foot. Officers
were able to apprehend her and once in custody she continued resist the
officers.
A
large amount of property that was purchased from the store was seized from the
subjects at the scene. It was later determined that the purchases had
been made with credit cards that were stolen out of a vehicle in the 900 block
of North Neal in Commerce. During the investigation, Commerce Officers
were led to a residence in the 600 block of North Neal where more of the items from
the store had been taken. Officers made contact with 22 year old Commerce
resident Darius Savage and 21 year old Commerce resident Latambria
Newsome. Along with the fraudulently purchased items, officers also
recovered a small baggie containing methamphetamines. Mr. Savage was
arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance of a Penalty Group 1 under 1
gram and Ms. Newsome was arrested for a Bond Forfeiture Warrant out of Hunt
County for Possession of a Prohibited Substance in a Correctional Facility.
At
the Commerce jail, Ms. Dawson continued being combative and at one point
damaged a phone in the jail cell. She was transported to the Hunt County
Jail were she is being held on a Criminal Mischief of over $500 and under $1500
charge with a bond of $2000, an Evading Arrest charge with a bond of $2000, a
resisting arrest charge of $2000 and a Criminal Mischief of over $50 and under
$500 with a bond of $1000. All of the 3 other 3 persons were also
transported to the Hunt County Jail. Ms. Carter was charged with Credit
Card Abuse and is out of jail on a $7500 bond pending trial. Mr. Savage
is being held in the Hunt County Jail on a Possession of a Controlled Substance
charge with a $10,000 bond and Ms. Newsome is being held on the Bond Forfeiture
Warrant with a $5,000 bond.
Because
of the diligent work of the officers during the investigation, officers were
able to recover $800 in cash and over $2,300 in merchandise bought with the
stolen credit cards including a flat screen T.V., 2 Play Stations and a
futon. The investigation is ongoing and the suspects may be facing
additional charges in the near future.
