Firearm instructor offers free course for ETX educators

VAN ZANDT COUNTY, TX (KLTV) -

An East Texas firearm instructor is offering a free concealed handgun license course for educators.

Jim Lynch, of Tactical and Defensive of Texas, teaches gun safety and training at his range in Canton. Next month, he'll be offering his first free class to East Texas educators.

Lynch says he knows guns aren't allowed on school property, but if they ever are, he wants to help teachers and administrators be prepared.

"We think, here at Tactical and Defensive of Texas, that is coming. So, we just want people to be prepared... to teach them safely and to give them basic instruction. They may not want a CHL, that's fine. But, we'll still give them basic instructions on handling a firearm," says Lynch.

"I'm not here to say that everybody has to do this. I'm not. It just doesn't fit some people. I'm not here to talk anybody into this. But, if they have that desire and they have that curiosity, then come see us and work with us," he adds.

Lynch says if an East Texas educator is interested in the course, but doesn't want to attend alone, he'll offer a friend or family member a discount to attend with them.

People can register for the January 26 course by giving Lynch a call. You can learn more about Tactical and Defensive of Texas on their website.

Lynch says he has been running his shooting school for 19 years. Before that, he spent nine years with the Dallas County Sheriff's Office and 11 years with the City of Addison Police Department. Lynch says he works with six other instructors at Tactical and Defensive of Texas.

Lynch's daughter, an NRA instructor, also coordinates the East Texas chapter of A Girl and A Gun. At Tactical and Defensive of Texas, his daughter periodically teaches women-only gun training. You can learn more about the women's shooting league.
