Edgewood weathers strong storm

Wednesday night's storm didn't spawn any tornados in East Texas, but powerful straight line winds caused damage and knocked out power in the area.

Edgewood, located in Van Zandt County, was one of the hardest hit areas with several reports of trees down. Wednesday night's storm hit the area around 11 P.M.

"I thought we were in a tornado. I was about to get under a bridge. I thought any minute the car was going to go up in the air and I said, hold on," said Scott Trapp, an Edgewood resident.

Scott Trapp had gone to the store, and his wife Patsy stayed home.

"I heard some wind blowing and I came outside under this carport, and all of a sudden this big tree fell over on our electric line," Patsy said.

She said part of the tree was in the street, and a car hit a branch. Fortunately no one was hurt and there was no damage to the car.

Just down the street at Goggan's Tire a roof facade was torn off and hanging in front of the building. Jennifer Goggans got a phone call first thing in the morning.

"All the bay doors were blocked and they were going to move the damage so I'd better take pictures in case the insurance company needs it," Jennifer said.

A pine tree fell onto a neighbor's driveway on the other side of town.

Limbs snapped and fell on roofs and carports, and one carport didn't withstand the wind's blast.

Residents are thankful this was as bad as it got.

Edgewood police tell us that no injuries were reported.
