A 19-year-old man is hospitalized after he was shot in the neck Wednesday night at a basketball court in north Tyler.
Officers said the shooting happened sometime after 10 p.m. at City Park, near North Broadway Avenue and West Queen Street in Tyler.
The victim, whose name has not been released, was at the basketball court with family members.
They were accosted by three or four males who reportedly fired a handgun at the victim and took personal items from the teenager and a relative, according to Lieutenant Lee Plymail with the Tyler Police Department. "[Officers] found one subject that had been shot. We got a report that three or four black males had robbed some subjects here in the park and one of them got shot," Plymail said.
The teen was taken by ambulance to ETMC in Tyler with non-life threatening injuries.
Plymail said the suspects are described as young, thin black males approximately 5'8" to 6' tall, weighing approximately 150 to 180 pounds. The case is under investigation by Tyler Police Department Detectives.
