Hello, I am John Butchko, Pastor at Westlake United Methodist Church.
The poet Carl Sandburg says, "The birth of a child is God's opinion that life should go on." The birth of a child is the heart of Christmas for Christians, but we do not have to fight with everyone who says "Happy Holiday" instead of our preferred "Merry Christmas."
We are reminded by the people of Newtown, Connecticut that children are precious and that if we desire that our faith matters, we will find a way to genuinely love and care for the children of our communities and for the world.
Christ does not call me to promote Christmas as much as I am called to promote love. May we resolve to love outside of our comfort zone.
And, to accept that if there is going to be peace; it will begin with each one of us.
