ETX students close to winning thousands

East Texas students are working hard for votes that could win them a brand new playground.

Arp Elementary School students said the one thing missing from their recess is a playground.

The school was nominated to win Clorox' Power A Bright Future grant. If they win, the money will go to building these students a structure to play on during recess.

"We're the only school in East Texas trying to compete for this grant and we really need all the help we can get," said Patricia Parnell who teaches at Arp Elementary.

She, along with several other staff members, students and parents visited East Texas businesses on Saturday to let residents know about their standing in the competition.

A few weeks ago, Arp was number 59 in the competition, but they quickly moved up to number five.

"It's overwhelming, it really is overwhelming to see the support that we've had from everybody helping us get to number one," Parnell said with tears in her eyes.

The last day to vote is Wednesday, December 19.

If you would like to cast your vote to help Arp when a playground, just text "2216pbf" to 95248. You can also cast your vote online by clicking here.
