The United Way of Smith County teamed up with Randall Noe Fiat to give a car away to one generous East Texas woman.
Beverly Collins has worked as an educator in Tyler for more than 30 years and has consistently donated to the local United Way.
Randall Noe Fiat and United Way of Smith County created a drawing for those who pledged to contribute at least five dollars a week to the United Way of Smith County for one year.
The winner of the drawing would be presented with a brand new 2013 Fiat 500, or they could choose a cash option.
United Way staff said they could not be more happy that Collins' name was drawn.
Collins said she has donated to the United Way for years, but originally did not even enter her name in the drawing for a new card.
"I didn't even fill out my entree form and our secretary encouraged me to at Mentoring Minds, and they called Tuesday and my name was drawn. I feel so blessed to have won the car," Collins explained.
Even though Collins said she has never had a new car, at the end of the day, she decided to take the cash.
"It enabled me to give my children a better Christmas and also to save a little money because I do need to buy a house. Also, it helped me give back to the community, which was really important to me because it was a gift from God to me literally. So, I've been able to give back some money too," Collins said.
Collins said she has so much joy when she is able to give back to her community.
"I donate to the United Way because they support so many different organizations. I really believe without non-profit organization like the United Way, many people in Tyler would not be served," Collins said.
Reese Anderson is the Campaign Director for the United Way. She said last year, 64,000 Smith county residents were helped by programs supported by people who gave to their local United Way.
Anderson said every dollar given goes directly to meeting the needs of people right here in Smith County.
"They're wonderful people; I've worked with them for years. They really have a heart for the community. It's an honor to have received the car in this way," Collins said.
