JACKSONVILLE, TX (KLTV) -

Jacksonville police are searching for a man they consider to be armed and dangerous following a traffic stop on Monday.

Officers attempted to stop 25-year-old Curtis Trevor Simmons on Monday for a traffic violation when Simmons took off in his car, leading to a lengthy pursuit. Eventually, Simmons jumped out of his vehicle and ran down an embankment into heavy woods.

According to Jacksonville police, Texas Department of Criminal Justice dogs were brought in to search for the suspect, but were unable to find the man. Officers recovered several weapons from Simmons' vehicle.

Simmons has a lengthy criminal history and is currently wanted by the Jacksonville Police Department for evading arrest with a vehicle, a state jail felony. The Cherokee County Sheriff's Department also has two warrants for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon for the suspect.
