CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -
One Cincinnati City Council member spoke out against leasing the city's parking system on Wednesday.
Councilman P.G. Sittenfeld called a press conference on Wednesday morning to highlight the negative impact outsourcing would have on neighborhood business districts.
This follows City Manager Milton Dohoney's budget proposal to lease the parking system, in order to fill a $34 million deficit in 2013.
Sittenfeld, in addition to other community leaders and small business owners voiced their opposition to the proposal.
"Outsourcing our parking system robs the city of future revenue, and also will mean higher parking rates, longer hours of enforcement and more parking tickets," Sittenfeld said.
In addition, he believes selling a system that generates revenue for the city will not fix "an operating deficit".
The press conference came just days before City Council plans to vote on the 2013 budget on Friday.
