Coroner: Hand, foot found at N. Shreveport plant from animal

Posted: Updated:

The Caddo Coroner has confirmed that the severed hand and foot found at a rendering plant in North Shreveport are those of a primate and not human.

Shreveport Police were called to Riegel By-Products in the 500 block of Fortson Street Wednesday morning after the parts were spotted by an employee.

Police noted what they described as deformities in the body parts that appeared to indicate they might not be human, and sent the parts to the Caddo Coroner's office to confirm their suspicions.

Rendering is a process that converts waste animal tissue into by-products. The plant receives shipments by the truckload and police believe the body parts may have arrived in one of those shipments.
