Skinner goes viral with massive dunk

Posted: Updated:

JACKSONVILLE, TEXAS (KLTV) - Daniel Skinner didn't know it, but he was about to put Jacksonville College on the national stage.

"You always read about people and their 15 minutes of fame," said JC head coach Jody Bailey.

"I jumped from the free throw line," said Skinner. "That's what I needed to do."

Skinner's dunk, from just a few inches inside the free throw line, against Tyler Junior College last Thursday pulled them out of their seats.

"Everyone just went crazy."

But that was just the beginning of crazy.

"Unbeknownst to me, one of my former players had submitted it, he had happened to be at the game," said Bailey. "He texted me and said 'coach I just sent that in to Sportscenter.' I said, so did I."

And wouldn't you know, the very next night, there was Daniel Skinner with the #1 play in the country.

"The school had gone crazy, everyone was just jumping on me, jumping on my neck, I could not even get up off the floor," said Skinner. "I was signing autographs & taking pictures, it was the life."

"The entire campus was like a mosh pit," said Bailey.

The ironic part of the story is that the play didn't even count.

Skinner was called for an offensive foul, negating the points.

But the dunk itself, was all anyone was talking about.

"He can have that charge for that day, I will take ESPN any day," said Skinner.

"As it has gone through," said Bailey, "It is the most talked about non-basket play that I have ever seen."

Plenty of others have seen it as well.

In less than a week, Skinner's dunk has more than 700,000 views on YouTube.

"It allows for a national spolight to be put on our college, and it is just neat to be a part of it," said Bailey.

And Skinner's 15 mintues of fame, not over yet.

"I never thought it would make it this big, it is viral now," said Skinner, "My phone has not stopped, whether texting, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, it's been crazy.

"This one did not count," said Bailey. "Yet here we are talking about how majestic it is."

Skinner and the Jaguars take the court again on January 3rd.
