Several East Texas rescue horses made their big debut Friday, as they starred in their first-ever Christmas production.
Doris Day Horse Rescue and Adoption Center hosted about 300 students from all over East Texas who "ooh-ed and ahh-ed" over the staff's performance, which included horses who are up for adoption.
"It was really special to look out and see mesmerized kids," said Stormy Logan, the director of the center.
The staff at Doris Day transformed their horse arena into a magical winter wonderland.
"It's full of trees, magic and sparkly bridges," Logan explained.
Logan created this Christmas production that had 300 students in awe.
"I wrote the play, suddenly it turned into a little play musical and we just wanted to share it with the schools because it's got a strong message about animal care and looking after animals. So, if we can help people see that in a fun way, that's what we are doing," Logan explained.
It is a story of a cruel man who mistreats everyone around him, including his horse, but thanks to this little fairy and hopeful elf, a fairy godmother changes the man's heart. By the end of the play, the horses all find loving homes.
So, what part did these kids love the most?
"When they were riding horses," said one student.
"When I got to see the horses," replied another.
"To them, that's what really caught them. And that's what we really wanted it to be about, not people in costume, but the horses," Logan said.
And all of these horses are up for adoption.
Which means that maybe Daniel's Christmas wish of a pony for his baby sister, will come true. Daniel wished for a pony for his baby sister.
