Record-breaking donation builds ETX heart hospital

Posted: Updated:
TYLER, TX (KLTV) -

The new Louis and Peaches Owen Heart Hospital at Trinity Mother Frances in Tyler is about to open.

The state-of-the-art facility was made possible by an $18 million donation from the heart hospital's namesakes, Louis and Peaches Owen. It is the first freestanding heart hospital in the Tyler area.

The Owens wanted East Texans to be able to receive great heart care close to home.

"I want it to be the best hospital in the nation. I already feel like it is. I know there's competition. There already is here in town, but it offers so much," says Peaches Owen, who helped make the hospital possible.

The new hospital includes 72 new private patient rooms, a cardiac intensive care unit, cardiac surgical suites and comprehensive cardiac, thoracic vascular and pulmonary services.

The hospital opens for patient care on December 15.
