Red or not, here comes Kilgore

KILGORE, TX (KLTV) -

The Ragin' Red is back in Kilgore as nearly half the Bulldogs football team is sporting red hair.

"It was Cooper Coldiron's idea," said Kilgore tackle Jake Jordan.  "I had no idea we were doing it until the playoffs started."

Not everyone is board with the new playoff-do.  Kilgore kicker Hector Peralez has good reason.

"I have to go to basketball next and other teams student sections are brutal."

Other Bulldogs have joined in.

"At first I was concerned about it," said Kilgore defensive end Cornelius Bell.  "But then I did it because of team spirit and we're trying to get everyone to do it.

Red or not, here they come.

The Bulldogs have rolled to the state semifinals, just one win away from the school's first state title appearance since 2004.

"We're looking forward to putting another banner up and trophy in that case," said Jordan.

"Right now we're hoping we can play for state," said Bell.  "For us it's more determination to go out and do what we have to do to win.  I dream about it, but hopefully I'll be awake next time."

If the Bulldogs do go to Cowboys Stadium, maybe everyone in Kilgore will go red.

"Most laugh at us," said Bell.  "But we're trying to get the teachers to dye their hair and we can get a good laugh at them."

"To be able to do this during your senior year," says Jordan. "It has been really fun."
