Wilcox County faces ECI in state semifinals

ROCHELLE, GA (WALB) -

In the first year of the split championships between public and private schools, the points system used to determine who made the state playoffs was right on target in the public school bracket.

The top four teams, before the seedings were adjusted for region champions, have made it to the semifinals.

The second seeded Wilcox County Patriots will host third seeded Emanuel County Institute.

This is a game that features two teams with very good but different offenses.

The Patriots have a spread passing attack and the Bulldogs from ECI have a great rushing attack.

This game is rematch of the 2007 state championship game won by ECI.

No one on this year's Wilcox County team played in that game but some seniors were on the 2009 state championship team.

Those seniors are wanting another chance to play in the Georgia Dome.

"It is memories that you will always have. It is a special thing to play in Atlanta in the Georgia Dome. We would like nothing more just like every kid playing Friday night. They all want to be there," said Wilcox County head coach Mark Ledford.

Game time is 7:30 p.m. Friday in Rochelle.

Watch highlights at 11:00 p.m. Friday on WALB News 10's Locker Room Report.

We will also have highlights of the other Class A Public Semifinal game between Dooly County and Lincoln County in Lincolnton.
